Thomas Harrison

Soldier

Major-General Thomas Harrison was a prominent English Puritan soldier and politician during the English Civil War. He was a leader of the radical Fifth Monarchists, who believed in the imminent return of Jesus Christ to establish his kingdom on Earth. As a committed republican and regicide, Harrison signed the death warrant of King Charles I in 1649. Following the Restoration of the monarchy, he was arrested, tried, and horrifically executed for his role in the king's death.
