Audie Leon Murphy was one of the most decorated American combat soldiers of World War II. He received every military combat award for valor available from the U.S. Army, as well as French and Belgian awards for heroism. After his military service, he became a successful actor, starring in more than 40 films, including the autobiographical 'To Hell and Back'. He was a lifelong advocate for veterans' mental health, speaking openly about his own struggles with what is now known as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
