Terry Waite

Humanitarian

Terry Waite is a distinguished British humanitarian and author known for his work as a hostage negotiator. He came to international prominence in the 1980s as the Archbishop of Canterbury's special envoy, successfully negotiating the release of several hostages in Lebanon. Tragically, during a mission in 1987 to secure the release of remaining captives, he himself was taken hostage and held in solitary confinement for nearly five years. Since his release in 1991, Waite has dedicated his life to writing, lecturing, and extensive charitable work, co-founding organizations like Hostage UK.
