Mary, Queen of Scots

Monarch

Mary, Queen of Scots, born Mary Stuart, reigned over Scotland from 14 December 1542 until her forced abdication in 1567. As the only surviving legitimate child of King James V of Scotland, she acceded to the throne at just six days old. Her life was marked by political turmoil and her persistent claim to the English throne, which made her a significant threat to her cousin, Queen Elizabeth I. After fleeing to England for protection, she was imprisoned for over 18 years and ultimately executed for her alleged involvement in plots to assassinate Elizabeth.
