Francisco de Goya was a Spanish romantic painter and printmaker regarded as the most important Spanish artist of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. His paintings, drawings, and engravings reflected contemporary historical upheavals and influenced many later artists. He served as court painter to the Spanish Crown, and through his works he was both a commentator on and a chronicler of his era.
