Dorothy Fields was a prolific American librettist and lyricist who wrote lyrics for over 400 songs, primarily for Broadway musicals and films. Her career spanned more than four decades, during which she collaborated with many of the greatest composers of her era, including Jerome Kern and Cy Coleman. She was the first woman to win an Academy Award for Best Original Song for "The Way You Look Tonight" in 1936. Fields' witty, sophisticated, and emotionally resonant lyrics have made her one of the most respected figures in the history of American popular song.
