Zell Bryan Miller was an influential American politician and author who served as the 79th Governor of Georgia from 1991 to 1999. A conservative Democrat, he later became known for his support of Republican candidates, most notably delivering a keynote address at the 2004 Republican National Convention. After his governorship, he was appointed to the U.S. Senate, where he served from 2000 to 2005. Miller was also a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and a staunch advocate for education, creating the successful HOPE Scholarship program in Georgia.
