Yitzhak Navon was an Israeli politician, diplomat, and author who served as the fifth President of Israel from 1978 to 1983. He was the first Israeli president to be born in Jerusalem and the first Sephardi Jew to serve in that office. Before his presidency, Navon had a long career as a senior civil servant and was a member of the Knesset for the Alignment party. After his presidential term, he returned to politics, serving as Minister of Education and Culture, where he focused on bridging cultural gaps.
