Yahya Abdul-Aziz Jemus Junkung Jammeh is a Gambian politician who served as the second President of The Gambia from 1994 to 2017. He seized power in a 1994 military coup and was subsequently elected, ruling for over two decades with an authoritarian grip. His presidency was marked by severe human rights abuses, persecution of political opponents, and eccentric claims, such as having a herbal cure for AIDS. After losing the 2016 presidential election, he refused to concede, leading to a constitutional crisis and his eventual exile to Equatorial Guinea.
