Wallace Stegner was a celebrated American novelist, historian, and environmentalist, often called "The Dean of Western Writers." He won the Pulitzer Prize for Fiction in 1972 for his novel Angle of Repose and the U.S. National Book Award in 1977 for The Spectator Bird. Beyond his fiction, Stegner was a prominent conservationist, and his work often explored themes of the American West, family, and the environment.
