Titus Maccius Plautus

Playwright

Titus Maccius Plautus was a Roman playwright of the Old Latin period, and his comedies are among the earliest Latin literary works to have survived in their entirety. He wrote more than 100 plays, of which 21 are extant, which are mostly adaptations of Greek models for a Roman audience. His works are known for their stock characters, witty dialogue, and farcical situations, influencing later playwrights like Shakespeare and Molière. Plautus's use of vernacular Latin and musical elements made his plays immensely popular with the general public of his time.
