Sir Thomas Cavendish was a renowned English explorer and privateer known as 'The Navigator'. He is best known for being the first to deliberately circumnavigate the globe in an attempt to emulate Sir Francis Drake. His successful voyage from 1586 to 1588 brought him immense fame and fortune from captured Spanish treasure. Cavendish died at sea at the age of 31 during his second, less successful expedition to repeat his circumnavigation.
