Tecumseh

Tribal Leader

Tecumseh was a renowned Shawnee warrior and chief who became the primary leader of a large, multi-tribal confederacy in the early 19th century. He envisioned an independent Native American state east of the Mississippi River, free from American expansion. Alongside his brother Tenskwatawa, known as The Prophet, he worked to unite disparate tribes to resist the encroachment of the United States. Tecumseh allied with the British in the War of 1812 and was ultimately killed in the Battle of the Thames, a pivotal moment that led to the collapse of his confederacy.
