Sitting Bull

Tribal Leader

Sitting Bull was a Hunkpapa Lakota leader who led his people during years of resistance against United States government policies. He is most famous for his role in the 1876 Battle of the Little Bighorn, where he led a coalition of tribes to a major victory against the U.S. Army. After the battle, he fled to Canada for several years before returning to the U.S. and surrendering, eventually touring with Buffalo Bill's Wild West show. His steadfast defense of his people's land and way of life has made him an enduring symbol of Native American resistance and spiritual leadership.
