Stephen M. Walt is a prominent American political scientist and a leading figure in the neorealist school of international relations theory. He is the Robert and Renée Belfer Professor of International Affairs at Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government. Walt is best known for developing the 'balance of threat' theory, which posits that states' alliance behavior is determined by the threats they perceive from other states. Along with John Mearsheimer, he co-authored the controversial book 'The Israel Lobby and U.S. Foreign Policy,' which has sparked widespread debate.
