Scientist

Sidney Altman was a Canadian-American molecular biologist and a Sterling Professor at Yale University. He shared the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1989 with Thomas Cech for their discovery of the catalytic properties of RNA. This groundbreaking work revealed that RNA, previously thought to be only a passive carrier of genetic information, could also function as an enzyme. His research fundamentally changed the understanding of the origin of life and cellular function.
