Samuel Pepys

Author

Samuel Pepys was an English naval administrator and Member of Parliament, now most famous for the detailed private diary he kept for a decade. His diary provides a fascinating combination of personal revelation and eyewitness accounts of great events, such as the Great Plague of London and the Great Fire of London. Although he had a successful career in public service, his diary remained private and was not published until the 19th century. Today, the diary is considered one of the most important primary sources for the English Restoration period.
