Porter Johnston Goss is an American politician and former intelligence official who served as a Republican member of the U.S. House of Representatives from Florida from 1989 to 2004. During his congressional tenure, he was a key figure in intelligence matters, chairing the House Intelligence Committee from 1997 to 2004. Following his career in Congress, President George W. Bush appointed him as the last Director of Central Intelligence in 2004. He subsequently became the first Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), a position he held until his resignation in 2006.
