Pindar

Poet

Pindar was an Ancient Greek lyric poet from Thebes, active in the late 6th and early 5th centuries BC. Of the canonical nine lyric poets of ancient Greece, his work is the best preserved and most extensive. His compositions were primarily triumphal odes, known as epinicia, celebrating victors in the Panhellenic Games. Although his work is complex and filled with mythological allusions, he is remembered for his profound reflections on human fortune and divine will.
