Marie Antoinette

Queen

Born an Archduchess of Austria, Marie Antoinette became Dauphine of France in 1770 upon her marriage to the future Louis XVI. She ascended to the throne as Queen of France and Navarre in 1774, where her lavish lifestyle became a subject of popular discontent. Perceived as out of touch with the struggles of the common people, she became a primary symbol of the monarchy's excesses. Ultimately, she was tried for high treason by the Revolutionary Tribunal and executed by guillotine during the French Revolution.
