Margaret Spellings is an American education official and politician who served as the 8th U.S. Secretary of Education from 2005 to 2009 under President George W. Bush. Before her cabinet role, she was a key architect of the No Child Left Behind Act while serving as the White House Domestic Policy Advisor. Following her time in Washington, she became the president of the University of North Carolina system, leading the 17-campus institution from 2016 to 2019.
