Activist

Madalyn Murray O'Hair was a prominent American activist who founded the organization American Atheists. She is best known for the Supreme Court case Murray v. Curlett, which challenged mandatory Bible reading in public schools. The landmark 1963 ruling effectively banned government-mandated religious exercises in the U.S. school system. Her outspoken and often confrontational style made her one of the most controversial figures in 20th-century America until her murder in 1995.
