Lee Konitz was a pioneering American jazz saxophonist, composer, and bandleader whose career spanned over seven decades. He was a key figure in the cool jazz movement of the 1940s and 1950s, notably performing on Miles Davis's seminal 'Birth of the Cool' sessions. Known for his distinctively pure tone and advanced melodic and rhythmic improvisations, he was a disciple of the cerebral Lennie Tristano school of jazz. Throughout his life, Konitz remained a relentlessly creative and forward-thinking artist, collaborating with a wide range of musicians and constantly evolving his sound.
