Kurt Eisner

Politician

Kurt Eisner was a prominent German politician, journalist, and revolutionary who played a pivotal role in the German Revolution of 1918–19. He successfully led the overthrow of the Wittelsbach monarchy in Bavaria and declared the state a free republic, serving as its first Minister-President. A committed socialist and pacifist, his brief leadership was marked by progressive reforms, but he struggled to unite the fragmented political landscape. His political career was tragically cut short when he was assassinated by a right-wing nationalist in Munich in February 1919.
