John George Diefenbaker was a Canadian politician who served as the 13th prime minister of Canada from 1957 to 1963. Born in Neustadt, Ontario, he became a successful defence lawyer before entering federal politics as a Progressive Conservative. His government passed the Canadian Bill of Rights and granted the vote to First Nations and Inuit peoples. Despite his initial popularity, his government faced criticism over economic policies and the Bomarc missile crisis, leading to his defeat in 1963.
