James Shirley

James Shirley was a prominent English dramatist, poet, and writer of the Caroline era. He is considered one of the last major figures of the English Renaissance theatre. Shirley wrote numerous plays, including comedies, tragedies, and tragicomedies, which were popular in his time. After the closing of the theatres in 1642 by the Puritans, he turned to teaching and writing poetry and masques.
