George C. Wallace was an American politician who served as the 45th Governor of Alabama for four terms. He is best known for his pro-segregationist views during the Civil Rights Movement, famously declaring his opposition to integration. Wallace ran for U.S. President four times, surviving an assassination attempt in 1972 that left him paralyzed and in constant pain. Later in his career, he renounced his segregationist stance and sought forgiveness from civil rights leaders.
