Fritz Kreisler was a celebrated Austrian-born violinist and composer, renowned for his warm tone and expressive phrasing. He was a child prodigy, entering the Vienna Conservatory at the age of seven and later studying in Paris. His career spanned over six decades, during which he became one of the most famous violin virtuosos of his time. Kreisler also composed numerous short pieces for the violin, some of which he famously passed off as works by earlier composers before revealing his authorship.
