Emil Nolde

Painter

Emil Nolde was a German-Danish painter and printmaker, and one of the first Expressionists as a member of Die Brücke. He is known for his vigorous brushwork and an expressive, powerful choice of colors, often depicting biblical scenes, landscapes, and floral motifs. Despite his artistic innovations, his legacy is complicated by his ardent support for the Nazi party, which ironically later declared his art 'degenerate.' His work remains influential for its emotional power and pioneering use of intense, non-representational color.
