Cyril Ponnamperuma was a renowned Sri Lankan scientist who made significant contributions to the fields of chemical evolution and the origin of life. He joined NASA's Ames Research Center in 1963, becoming a principal investigator for the Apollo program to analyze lunar soil samples. Throughout his career, he directed the Laboratory of Chemical Evolution at the University of Maryland and served as a scientific advisor to multiple governments. His pioneering research on abiogenesis helped shape modern understanding of how life's building blocks could have formed on a primitive Earth.
