Curtis LeMay

Military General

Curtis Emerson LeMay was a general in the United States Air Force and the vice presidential running mate of American Independent Party candidate George Wallace in the 1968 presidential election. He is credited with designing and implementing an effective, but controversial, systematic strategic bombing campaign in the Pacific theater of World War II. After the war, he served as Chief of Staff of the U.S. Air Force and was instrumental in organizing the Berlin Airlift. Known for his aggressive and hawkish stance during the Cold War, LeMay's tough persona and candid statements made him a memorable and often contentious figure in American military history.
