Barry Commoner was a prominent American biologist, ecologist, and a foundational figure in the modern environmental movement. He is best known for articulating the 'Four Laws of Ecology' in his groundbreaking 1971 book, 'The Closing Circle'. Commoner argued that environmental problems were symptoms of flawed technological and economic systems, rather than simply overpopulation. He also ran for President of the United States in 1980 on the Citizens Party ticket, cementing his role as a public intellectual and activist.
