Anne Sullivan was an American teacher best known as the instructor and lifelong companion of Helen Keller. After contracting a trachoma infection at age five, she was left partially blind and without reading or writing skills. She graduated as valedictorian from the Perkins School for the Blind and soon began teaching Helen, who was both blind and deaf. Sullivan's innovative teaching methods helped Keller learn to communicate, read, and write, transforming the perception of education for individuals with disabilities.
