Andrew Goodman

Activist

Andrew Goodman was a prominent American social activist and a key figure in the Civil Rights Movement. He was one of three activists from the Congress of Racial Equality (CORE) who was abducted and murdered in Neshoba County, Mississippi, during the 1964 Freedom Summer campaign. Goodman, along with James Chaney and Michael Schwerner, had been working to register African Americans to vote. His death galvanized support for the movement and contributed to the passage of the Voting Rights Act of 1965, becoming an enduring symbol of martyrdom for the cause of racial equality.
