Alonzo Mourning is a retired American professional basketball player who played most of his 15-year career for the Miami Heat. Known for his tenacious defense and shot-blocking, he was a seven-time NBA All-Star and won the NBA Defensive Player of the Year Award twice. After being diagnosed with a life-threatening kidney disease, he made a remarkable comeback following a kidney transplant, eventually winning an NBA championship with the Heat in 2006. Mourning was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 2014 and is highly regarded for his extensive philanthropic work through his Mourning Family Foundation.
