Yasser Arafat was a prominent Palestinian political leader who served as the Chairman of the Palestine Liberation Organization (PLO) from 1969 to 2004. He also became the first President of the Palestinian National Authority (PNA) in 1994, a position he held until his death. A highly controversial figure, he was a central actor in the Israeli-Palestinian conflict for decades, eventually engaging in negotiations with Israel. For his efforts in the Oslo Accords, he was jointly awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1994, along with Yitzhak Rabin and Shimon Peres.
