William John Wills was a British surveyor and explorer who gained fame as the second-in-command of the ill-fated Burke and Wills expedition. He was responsible for the expedition's scientific observations, meticulously documenting the journey's meteorological and survey data. After successfully completing the first south-north crossing of Australia, the return journey was met with extreme hardship and starvation.
