William Falconer

Poet

William Falconer was a Scottish poet and marine lexicographer, best known for his epic poem 'The Shipwreck.' Born in Edinburgh, he spent much of his life at sea, which profoundly influenced his literary work. His experiences provided the authentic and dramatic detail for his most famous poem, first published in 1762. Tragically, his life mirrored his art, as he was presumed lost at sea aboard the frigate Aurora in late 1769.
