William Allingham

Poet

William Allingham was a distinguished Irish poet, diarist, and editor associated with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood. Born in Ballyshannon, County Donegal, he spent much of his life working as a customs officer while pursuing his literary ambitions. His work often celebrates the natural beauty and folklore of his native Ireland, with his most famous poem being "The Faeries." Allingham was a close friend to many prominent Victorian literary figures, including Dante Gabriel Rossetti and Alfred, Lord Tennyson, and his detailed diary provides valuable insight into the era.
