Walter Map

Writer

Walter Map was a medieval Welsh writer, churchman, and courtier who served the English royal court during the 12th century. He is best known for his work De nugis curialium (Trifles of Courtiers), a satirical collection of anecdotes, folklore, and court gossip. This work provides a unique and critical insight into the life and politics of the Angevin court under King Henry II. Though once associated with the development of Arthurian legend, modern scholarship has largely dismissed his direct contribution to those tales.
