Terry Melcher was an influential American record producer, musician, and songwriter who was a key architect of the California Sound in the 1960s. As the son of actress and singer Doris Day, he carved his own path in the music industry, producing major hits for bands like The Byrds and Paul Revere & the Raiders. His production work on The Byrds' "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Turn! Turn! Turn!" helped to pioneer the genre of folk rock. Melcher is also infamously remembered for his connection to Charles Manson, having considered and then rejected Manson for a recording contract, an event which indirectly led to the Tate murders at his former residence.
