Taisen Deshimaru

Zen Master

He was a Japanese Sōtō Zen Buddhist teacher and the founder of the Association Zen Internationale. Deshimaru traveled to Europe in 1967, settling in Paris, where he became a key figure in the transmission of Zen to the West. He taught that the practice of zazen, or sitting meditation, was the essence of Zen and the key to awakening. Through his teachings and the establishment of numerous dojos, he left a lasting legacy on Zen Buddhism in Europe.
