Susan Leigh Smith is an American woman who was convicted for the 1994 murder of her two young sons. On October 25, 1994, she initially claimed her vehicle had been carjacked by a man who drove away with her sons still inside. After nine days of frantic searching and intense national media coverage, Smith confessed to letting her car roll into a nearby lake, drowning both children. She was found guilty of two counts of murder and sentenced to life in prison with the possibility of parole after thirty years.
