Roy Thomson, 1st Baron Thomson of Fleet, was a Canadian-born British newspaper proprietor who became one of the moguls of Fleet Street. He began his media empire by purchasing a radio station in North Bay, Ontario, and later expanded into newspapers across Canada. In the 1950s, he moved to the United Kingdom, where he acquired a vast portfolio of publications, including The Sunday Times and The Times. Known for his intense business focus and frugal personal lifestyle, he was created a hereditary peer in 1964 for his public services.
