Roger Sherman was an early American statesman, lawyer, and a Founding Father of the United States. He is the only person to have signed all four great state papers of the U.S.: the Continental Association, the Declaration of Independence, the Articles of Confederation, and the U.S. Constitution. Sherman served as a delegate to the Continental Congress and was a key architect of the Connecticut Compromise at the 1787 Constitutional Convention. His long political career also included serving as the first mayor of New Haven, Connecticut, and as a U.S. Representative and Senator from Connecticut.
