Robert K. Morgan was a distinguished American military officer and pilot in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. He is best known as the pilot of the B-17 Flying Fortress named the Memphis Belle, the first heavy bomber to complete 25 combat missions over Europe and return to the United States. The crew's accomplishment was a significant morale booster for the American public and was celebrated with a 31-city war bond tour. After the war, Morgan continued his military service, flying B-29s over Japan, and later entered private business, remaining a symbol of American courage and perseverance.
