Robert Heron Bork was an influential American judge, government official, and legal scholar. He served as Solicitor General and Acting Attorney General of the United States before becoming a judge on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit. His 1987 nomination to the U.S. Supreme Court by President Ronald Reagan was highly contentious and ultimately rejected by the Senate. After his failed nomination, Bork became a prominent conservative academic and author, known for his advocacy of originalism in constitutional interpretation.
