Red Cloud was a prominent leader of the Oglala Lakota who led a successful campaign against the United States from 1866 to 1868, known as Red Cloud's War. His resistance resulted in the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1868, which established the Great Sioux Reservation and represented a major victory for the Lakota. After the war, he transitioned into a political leader, advocating for his people's rights through diplomacy and negotiation. He remained an important and respected voice for the Lakota people on the Pine Ridge Reservation until his death in 1909.
