Pierre S. 'Pete' du Pont IV was a prominent American lawyer and politician from Rockland, Delaware. He served as the 68th Governor of Delaware from 1977 to 1985, leading the state through a period of significant economic reform. Prior to his governorship, he represented Delaware in the U.S. House of Representatives for three terms. After leaving office, du Pont sought the Republican nomination for President in 1988 and remained an influential voice in conservative politics.
