Paul Biya is a Cameroonian politician who has served as the President of Cameroon since 6 November 1982. Born in Mvomeka'a, he rose through the bureaucracy under President Ahmadou Ahidjo in the 1960s and 1970s. Biya was appointed Prime Minister in 1975 and later succeeded Ahidjo as president upon the latter's unexpected resignation. His extended rule has made him one of Africa's longest-serving leaders, overseeing periods of both economic growth and significant political challenges.
